Pizza – with homemade pizza sauce

I love eating pizza. Well who doesn’t! 

And I love eating pizza at home with homemade pizza sauce. I only get the base from outside so that I can focus my cooking time on the main part of the pizza – the sauce! 

I always feel homemade sauce is so much healthier and tastier than the bottled ones available in market. Because I can add many vegetables to the sauce and make it a super healthy treat for my little one. 

Here is a recipe for a quick homemade pizza sauce which is very easy to make and tastes really good. 

The pizza ends up becoming a full meal in itself with loads of nutrition. 

In this sauce, I have used tomato, onion and capsicum in the sauce. You can even add other bell peppers or even carrots. Even sneak in some pumpkin cubes. 

You can use various herbs to season your sauce – dried or fresh – oregano, chilli flakes, mixed herbs, basil. I have used mixed herbs in this recipe. 

Toppings – anything  you want! With the sauce you make,  add any topping of your choice – mushrooms, vegetables, baby corn, olives, tofu, cottage cheese, chicken salami, chicken sausage, left over tandoori chicken, bacon … anything you like!


For the pizza sauce 

1. Onion – 2 medium, finely chopped

2. Tomato – 3 large, de-seeded and finely chopped 

3. Capsicum – 1 large, de-seeded and finely chopped 

4. Mixed herbs – 2 tsp 

5. Tomato ketchup – 2 tbsp 

6. Cheese spread – 2 tbsp 

7. Salt – 1 tsp or to taste 

8. Pepper powder – half tsp 

9. Oil – 2 tbsp

For the pizza 

1. Pizza base 

2. Toppings – Mushroom / Chicken / Bacon / vegetables / various cheese / olives / jalapeños / capers  (choose any topping you like) 

3. Mozzarella cheese – 2 cup grated 

4. Salt – to sprinkle on topping

5. Pepper powder – optional 


For the pizza sauce 


Heat oil in a saucepan.

Add the chopped vegetables – onions, tomatoes and capsicum. Mix together and fry on medium/low heat for 10 -15 minutes.

Add the seasoning – salt to taste, pepper powder and mixed herbs.

Let the vegetables cool down a little and then puree in a mixer grinder.

Add cheese spread and tomato ketchup to the pureed vegetables. Also check the seasoning.

To prepare the pizza 


Pre-heat the oven at 200 degree Celsius.  Spread the prepared sauce on the pizza base.

Add topping of your choice.

Sprinkle some salt and pepper powder. Spread grated Mozzarella cheese on the pizza base.

Bake the pizza in a oven.  If  you are using a large size pizza base then bake for 20-25 minutes until the top cheese layer starts to get a little brown and is bubbling. If you are using small ones then bake for 15-20 minutes.
